Collection: Altolamprologus Compressiceps & Calvus

Altolamprologus Compressiceps & Calvus are endemic to the shallow rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika.  They are distributed throughout the lake with many different color/size variations.

Altolamprologus Compressiceps can be distinguished by having shorter jaws and having a turned up snout.

Altolamprologus Calvus are close relatives of the Compressiceps, they can be distinguished by their long sloping face, less distinct barring, with more distinction in the spots.

Diet:  Both species are Carnivourus in the wild.  However in the home aquarium they prefer high quality sinking pellets, or frozen meaty foods.

Breeding:  Both like a lot of rockscape in their tank with plenty of crevices and caves for hiding and breeding.  Be sure some cracks and crevices are only big enough for the female(smaller of the pair) to fit into.  This prevents the Male and/or other tank mates from eating the eggs/fry.
